Georgia grew up in a suburb outside of Wellington and at the age of 5 her mother enrolled her in Jazz classes at Caroline Stewart School of Dance (CSSD). After a not so enthusiastic start in ballet, Georgia instantly fell in love with the freedom of movement that Jazz allowed and the fun, relaxed environment of the classes and the enthusiasm from teachers.
Over the next 25 years Georgia sat and completed all of the NZAMD American Jazz and American Tap syllabi and completed half of the Hip Hop syllabus. She started teaching tap classes for Caroline in 2011 and quickly discovered her passion for teaching dance to both children and adults. Georgia left CSSD in 2022 as her and her family prepared to move to Otorohanga. After a few years of settling in and welcoming her third child, Georgia is now excited to start the next stage of her dance journey and share her passion with her new community.
Georgia's teaching style is both engaging and encouraging. She creates a positive environment where students can explore their creativity. Her classes are filled with energy, laughter, and a lot of fun. While technique is important, she firmly believes that developing a love of dance should come first and technique will then follow.
Georgia wants Above the Beat to become a second family for dancers. One of the key aspects classes is a focus on building confidence with classes taught in a way to foster a sense of camaraderie and encourage students to celebrate one another's success. Every dancer is encouraged to add elements to creative numbers and contribute to fun warm ups and cool downs. This allows students to move freely and discover their own style.
In addition to weekly dance classes, students will have the opportunity to sit dance examinations once a year and perform in an end of year recital. Examinations are through the New Zealand Academy of Modern Dance and students will showcase their work for the examiner and receive a report card with feedback and a grade. Examinations are a fun way to build confidence in dancers along with an array of important skills to help dancers in their day to day life.
If you are looking for a dance class that combines fun, creativity, and skill-building, we invite you to join Georgia's classes. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer, there is a place for you at Above the Beat. Come and experience the joy of dance with Georgia and our wonderful community.
